In September 2018, I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer, for which I was given several surgical options. I wanted to keep my breasts, have no implants, and most importantly avoid radiation. For these reasons I decided I wanted the lumpectomy along with a reduction, due to having very large and dense breasts. Upon learning of my suggested aggressive approach, Dr. Kamdar counseled me on my concerns, allowing me to settle on a surgical option that would not sacrifice my health. Specifically, I was offered a nipple sparing reduction – my original approach would not have spared them. After 3 months of healing I would have a bilateral mastectomy, which would allow me to avoid radiation. Tissue from my abdomen would then be used in place of implants. I was so pleased with the reduction that I chose to skip the mastectomy until medically necessary, and I’m moving forward with the radiation!
Dr. Kamdar is a truly compassionate professional. I feel extremely fortunate to have been under the care of such an amazingly kind doctor, who put my health and ease of mind before profit. I feel my words cannot possibly do justice to such a Doctor/Patient relationship in what was such an emotionally vulnerable time. I felt safe and taken care of throughout my ordeal.
